Documenting Agroecological Transition in Kerala
The study report is a compilation of fifteen cases, where the farmers individually or in joint action has adopted innovative agroecological practices in their farm land which contributes towards sustainability of farming systems, from the districts of Kasaragod, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram. The report is an enquiry in to the sustainability principles including aspects of health, ecology and fairness and components of agroecological farming practices, innovative farming techniques, and resultant economic, ecological and social sustainability. Case studies are prepared using techniques of action research in which observation, reflection, dialoguing and participation assumes more importance which helps the researcher to understand the complexities and linkages in the farming systems by participating in farming along with the farmers. The report is the fruit of extensive field work done in the three districts and tries to create agroecological models harnessing the practical knowledge of farmers which can be replicated by others. The report tries to document diverse facets of agroecology as a movement, science and practice.
