Workshops/Seminars/Symposiums
1. Centre for Agroecology and Public Health conducted Two day workshop on training session on SPSS during 20th and 21st March 2019, at Seminar Hall, Department of Economics. Dr. Nagarajan Naidu (Professor, Department of Economics, University College) lead the hands-on training session on SPSS. The workshop aimed at imparting research scholars the essential skills for data analysis. Thirty research scholars attended the workshop and the program turned out to be a success.
2. Stakeholder Meeting: A one-day program was convened on March 27, 2019 to discuss on number of participants, themes, and program schedule of workshop on ‘Reflecting and Planning the Agroecology Course in Kerala’. The meeting reviewed the preparations done for the 2019 Course at University of Kerala and discussed on the possibilities for further refinement to match the intended shift perceived under NEXTFOOD project.
3. Focus Group Discussion of academic leaders: Administrative officials from University of Kerala participated in ‘Nextfood’ 2.1: Interview of academic leaders and faculty members’ University of Kerala on March 28, 2019. Dr. Gabriel Simon Thattil (IQAC Director), Jayaprakas M. (Former Registrar, University of Kerala) participated in the meeting along with project partners of Nextfood project.
4. Planning Workshop: The workshop intended for ‘Reflecting and planning the Agroecology Course in Kerala’, as a part of Next food project was conducted on 28th March 2019 at Green Cove, Kovalam, in which experts from Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences lead the workshop, and teachers and students from University of Kerala participated.
5. International Symposium: An International Symposium on ‘Agroecology: New Lens to Sustainable Development’ was conducted on 29.03.2019 at Mascot Hotel, along with the commencement of activities of Centre for Agroecology and Public Health. Dr. Geir Lieblein, Dr. Anna Marie Nicolaysen (Norwegian University of Life Sciences), Dr. Martin Melin (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), Prof. Ajayakumar P.P (Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala), Prof. Meena T. Pillai (Professor, Institute of English), Prof. Shaji Varkey (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences), delivered lectures.
6. ‘Focus Group Discussion- Inventory of Skills’ was conducted on May 17 at CAPH to identify skills related to sustainable food production, marketing, research and education related to sustainable agriculture in which 14 participants including students, teachers, researcher, farmers and market actors participated.
7. Two-day residential training program on Palliative care was jointly organized by Department of Student Services, National Service Scheme, Centre for Agroecology and Public Health and Pallium India on 10th and 11th October 2019 at Senate Chamber, University of Kerala. The program was hosted as a part of ‘Kaithangu Project’ of Centre for Agroecology and Public Health, Department of Economics, University of Kerala and aimed at empowering student volunteers to provide basic social support and companionship to patients by promoting ‘Student Initiative in Palliative Care’ (SIPC). One-week online training program was conducted for students from 15th August to 22nd August 2020 as a part of the initiative.
State Credit Seminar 2025-26, 22 January 2025
CAPH associated in the State Credit Seminar was hosted by NABARD on 22nd January 2025 at Kerala Regional Office, NABARD. As part of its credit planning process, NABARD annually prepares district-level Potential Linked Credit Plans (PLPs) through a participative and consultative approach involving all stakeholders in agriculture and rural development. Dr. Manju S. Nair shared the economist’s perspective on SFP. Shri K.N Balagopal (Hon’ble Finance Minister, Kerala), Prof. V.K. Ramachandran (Vice Chairperson, State Planning Board, ), Sri. Thomas Mathew (Regional Director, RBI) participated in the program.
Report Release program, 14th July 2023
Report on ‘Impact evaluation of Integrated Tribal Development Projects in Aralam and Poothady tribal areas’ were released in a report release program organized at the Department of Economics, University of Kerala on 14th July 2023. After the report release, a discussion was held in which eminent scholars in the field participated.

A national seminar on ‘SDG II – Zero Hunger: Ensuring Food security for all’ was organised on March 09 &10, 2023, in collaboration with NABARD. Dr. Rajkrishnan S.S. (Professor, IILM University, Greater Noida) delivered the keynote address and prominent academicians and experts, including Dr. Gopakumaran Nair G. (Chief General Manager, NABARD), Sri. K Jayakuamr IAS, Dr. S. Nazeeb (Member, Syndicate, UoK) Sri. Sreekumar B., (Additional Director, Director of Economics and Statistics, GoK), Dr. D Shinekumar, (Assistant Director, Departemnt of Animal Husbandary, GoK, Prof. K.J Joseph (Director, GIFT, Trivandrum), Dr. K.Subramaniam (Deputy General Manager, NABARD), Sri. S.S. Nagesh (Chief, Agriculture Division, SPB), Sri. Ajith Kumar (Director, Centre for Digital Innovation, Digital University) participated.
Two-day residential training program on Palliative care, 10th & 11th October, 2019
Two- day residential training program was jointly organized by the Department of Student Services, National Service Scheme, Centre for Agroecology and Public Health and Pallium India on 10th and 11th October 2019 at Senate Chamber, University of Kerala. The program was hosted as a part of ‘Kaithangu Project’ of Centre for Agroecology and Public Health, Department of Economics, University of Kerala and aimed at empowering student volunteers to provide basic social support and companionship to patients by promoting ‘Student Initiative in Palliative Care’ (SIPC) under the supervision of National Service Scheme, with the coordination from Department of Student Services. Dr. Sunil Kumar M.M. (Additional Director, Pallium India), Shri Riyas A.R (Chairman, Kerala University Union), Dr. Shaji A. (Programme Coordinator, NSS). Dr. Manju S. Nair (Hon Director, Centre for Agroecology and Public Health), Brahmanayakam Mahadevan (NSS Trainer and Social Worker) attended the session.
Seminar on ‘Pain & Palliative Care’ and Honouring of Palliative nurses, 19th January 2021
Centre for Agroecology, organised a Seminar on ‘Pain & Palliative Care’ and honoured Palliative nurses on 19th January 2021. The Hon’ble Pro. Vice Chancellor of the University of Kerala, Prof. P.P. Ajayakumar, inaugurated the programme wherein Adv. K. H. Babujan, (Convenor of the Standing Committee of the Syndicate), Dr. S. Nazeeb, (Convenor of the standing Committee of the Syndicate on Academics and Research) attended the program. Four research reports in connection with the study on ‘Social Intervention through Palliative Programme in Kerala ‘ were released during the programme. The Palliative team from K.K.C Memorial Palliative Unit, Karuna Palliative Unit, Chengannur and Kanivu Palliative Unit associated with Kilimanoor Family Health Centre were honoured at the programme. The training programme was conducted for the Palliative volunteers and the students, and Roy Jose, District Palliative Co-ordinator, Thiruvananthapuram, led the training programme
Online Training On Palliative Care, 20th July – 22nd July 2020
An Online training program on palliative care was jointly organised by the National Service Scheme, the Department of Student Services and the Centre for Agroecology and Public Health from July 20, 2020, to August 22, 2020, as a part of the implementation of the Student Palliative Care Unit in colleges. Pallium India provided training to students by setting up an online platform. The program was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Mahadevan Pillai, Hon. Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala. Dr. P.P. Ajayakumar (Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor) delivered the presidential address, and Dr. Babujan (Member, University Syndicate) delivered the keynote address. Dr. Gopchandran G., Dr. S. Nazeeb, Dr. M. Vijayan Pillai, Dr. J Jayaraj, Sri. R. Arun Kumar, Shri. Mohammed Yaseen (Syndicate members, University of Kerala) delivered special address in the program. Shri. Manoj G.S. (CEO and ED, Pallium India) also delivered a speech in which the role of students in universalising palliative care was highlighted.
Research Fest
CAPH is associated with the ‘Researcher’s Fest 2023’, conducted during June 19-22, 2023, at Kariavattom Campus of the University of Kerala, an event to promote research and societal integration. The fest named ‘HEIGHTS’ witnessed interaction with prominent academicians, demonstration of research equipment, congregation of researchers and industrialists, R&D stalls and Exhibitions. The CAPH arranged a R&D stall, namely ‘Agroecology: New Lens to Sustainable Development’, to exhibit the research and development activities of the Centre since its inception. It included a miniature of the agroecological farm, a model explaining the action research process and its interlinkages between the Centre, the University, the Society and the agriculture sector and action learning experiments. The fest acted as a knowledge dissemination platform where academicians, students from schools and colleges visited and participated in various activities.
Nextfood project: Action research dissemination activities
Planning and Reflection workshops – Eight planning and reflection workshops were conducted as part of the conduct of ‘Certificate course on action learning and research’ from 2019 to 2022.
Online Surveys – Two online surveys were conducted on ‘gender mainstreaming’ and ‘sustainable agriculture’ as a part of the Nextfood project.
Webinars – Around 15 webinars were conducted as a part of Nextfood sub group meetings aimed at facilitating collaborative research and learning among project participants. Participants across the world attended these webinars.
Focus Group Discussion with farmers, officials and students – Eight FGDs were organised during 2019-2022 with farmers, officials and students to co-create knowledge on agroecological transition and action learning techniques.
Student exchange program: Students from the University of Kerala visited and participated in the Agroecology course at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
Alumni Meet 2022: The Agroecology Course Alumni meeting was conducted at Varanashi Organic Farm located at Adyanadka, Karnatakam on April 29, 2022. During the official meeting, the brief report of the past activities of the Agroecology course was presented by Dr. Manju S. Nair, Director, Centre for Agroecology and Public Health. Following this, Mr. Partha Varanashi, Molecular Biologist and Organic Farmer, delivered a lecture on ‘Organic and Regenerative Farming through Soil Microbiology. The lecture focussed on the importance of permaculture system. Permaculture, originally ‘Permanent Agriculture’, is a framework for creating sustainable ways of living.
